A record 102 public library systems around the world reach readers to borrow more than 1 million e-books and audiobooks from their digital collections in 2020.
This represents the largest number of systems ever to reach this milestone through OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform.
Factors including increased use of digital books due to the pandemic, increased interest in social justice titles, multiracial authors, and strong growth in circulation of titles for children and young adults due to remote learning.
These 102 systems from the US, Canada, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand achieved elite “Million Checkout Club” status and 29 reached the milestone for the first time.
Notable achievements include the Toronto Public Library, which achieved the highest number of boxes in OverDrive history for the eighth time (8 million), the Santa Clara County Library (CA), which achieved the highest circulation growth year-over-year (147%) and the Los Angeles Public Library earning the number one library system title in the United States for the second year in a row.
